Compressor type comparison

Compressor Type Main Characteristics Typical Application Consideration
Fixed Speed Oil-Injected Motor operates at a fixed speed with oil-injected screw compression. Relatively stable and continuous air demand.
VSD / VFD Oil-Injected Motor speed varies according to compressed air demand. Applications with changing or variable air demand.
Belt-Driven Motor power is transferred to the compressor airend through a belt and pulley arrangement. Industrial applications requiring a practical belt-drive configuration.
Direct-Drive Motor power is transferred directly to the compressor airend. Applications where direct power transmission is suitable.
Two-Stage Air is compressed through two successive compression stages. Applications requiring higher pressure, depending on compressor model.
Oil-Injected Rotary Screw Rotary screw compression with oil injection for lubrication, cooling and sealing. Continuous industrial compressed-air applications.
Selection Factor Air demand, pressure and operating pattern Application and plant requirements

How Does a Screw Compressor Work?

An oil-injected rotary screw compressor continuously compresses incoming air through rotating screw rotors.

01. Air Intake

Atmospheric air enters the compressor through the intake system and air filter.

02. Air Compression

The air enters the screw airend where rotating screw rotors progressively compress the air.

03. Oil Injection

Oil is injected during compression for lubrication, cooling and sealing.

04. Oil Separation

The compressed air and oil mixture passes through the oil separation system.

05. Air Delivery

Compressed air is delivered to the plant compressed-air network and downstream system.

06. Oil Recirculation

Separated oil is returned to the compressor circuit as applicable to the compressor design.
